Should Prostitution be Legal in India? Delhi Responds.
The Immoral Traffic (Suppression) Act (SITA) states
Prostitutes can practise their trade privately but
cannot legally solicit or 'seduce' customers in public.
A number of related activities, including soliciting in a public place, kerb crawling, owning or managing a brothel, pimping and
pandering, are crimes.
The Supreme court of India asked the government to consider legalizing prostitution if it was unable to curb it.
